Open Day - Thursday, 21st March
We are holding an open day on Thursday, 21st March from 10.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. All are invited to come along and chat with the many training providers who will be on hand to tell you about the courses they will be running at Tairgwaith after the Easter Holidays. If we are not delivering a particular course in which you are interested, then you have the opportunity to let us know what you would like to see us be offering, be it a 10 week course or possibly just a one day taster or even, if you don't like the idea of formal training, why not enquire about joining our Club where in an informal setting you can Knit and Natter, Embroider, Crochet, or find out what you need to know about computers.
Also on hand to give lots of advice on such matters as the new Welfare Reforms, help on getting the right Benefits to which you may be entitled, how to go about getting help on writing a CV and general employment support services will be organisations such as Workways, Careers Wales etc.
We shall also have stands (you can book your space for just £3) where you can buy such things as chocolates, jewellery, scarves and a whole range of items, or just browse and have a leisurely few hours over a snack and cuppa in our café.

SmartSlim
Thursday, 31 January 6.00 p.m. is a very busy time at Canolfan Maerdy. Not only is it the start of SmartSlim coming to us each Thursday at 6. 00 p.m. but as you can see below, we also have the Design2Smile team coming along for our Parents.
After the over indulgences of the Christmas period and the start of a new year when resolutions are at their highest, we do hope you will think about joining SmartSlim. It's not only about losing weight, but it's about healthy eating and, as most of us know, although we may have good intentions, keeping those good intentions up is so much easier with the backing of a support group. Note: You pay only for weeks that you attend -unlike some other similar slimming groups.

Design2Smile
On Thursday, 31st January 2013 we have a lady from the Design2Smile Campaign coming along to talk to parents about their children's oral/dental hygiene. This will start at 6.00 p.m. for just around an hour and be an informative presentation in helping you to teach your children how to brush their teeth properly. Not only that - lots of free goodies to give to your children so they begin to enjoy brushing with novelty toothbrushes etc. All parents are welcome, even those who do not have a child in our creche. Please note, however, this meeting is for adults only and not for children to attend. We hope to see you on the 31st. ) For fuller information see Activities on our Lots Of Tots Page.
Visit to Santa at Dan Yr Ogof Caves
To the delight of the children, heading towards the caves they could see snow on the mountain top. Without doubt, 6th December was one of the coldest days we've yet had this year but that didn't deter the enjoyment of children and adults alike. Do please visit our Photo Gallery.
Christmas Fayre
Monday, 17th December we are holding our Christmas Fayre between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m.. Although this is a busy time of year where everyone seems to be holding fayres, we do hope you will find the time to pop in. Stalls with various Christmas (and other) goodies, games for the children to play and prizes to win. We shall also have the draw for the main raffle for which we have been selling tickets over the past few weeks where the first prize is a Kindle.

Chocolate Party:
Monday, 19th November, from 6.00 pm to around 8.30 pm we are holding a Chocolate Party. Please do come along and bring your friends to see the wide selection of chocolates, both conventional and some exciting novelty shapes for the children. I personally love the chocolates in the shape of a keyboard or smartphone, not to mention the MeerKats.
Chocolates are always a good idea for those extra little presents, as stocking fillers or even to keep in reserve for unexpected guests over the festive season and, of course, ideal for having with that after dinner cuppa.
Start off the Chocolate Eating season in style by joining our party on the 19th!

Canolfan Maerdy at Tesco Ammanford
Friday, 23rd November from 10.00 am. until 3.00 pm come and visit our stand at Tesco in Ammanford where you can come and chat about the courses/events we will be putting on in the New Year. A 15 week intensive ECDL Extra (Level2) course will be starting Wednesday, 9th January on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 4.30pm. This is designed specifically for people in the work place to improve IT productivity and learn all those tips and tricks you admire in others to get you through your work more quickly. This is completely FREE to anyone working 16 or more hours a week.
Another course starting the third week in January is called Introduction to Psychology. Delivered by DACE, this is bound to be an awe inspiring few weeks.

Jewellery Party:
Tuesday, 4th December from 6.00 p.m. until 8.00'ish: we do hope you will come along and see all the exciting and stylish pieces of jewellery for sale. Includes pendants, necklaces, bangles, ear-rings, sets, etc. Some really beautiful pieces will be on view and at very reasonable prices. No ordering and waiting for delivery - you will be able to select and take your purchases with you on the night. Please do tell all your friends and family about this. Sure to be a good evening and you could find just the present you're looking for (if not for yourself!!).
Volunteers Wanted
Living in the Upper Amman Valley? Want to do something for your community?
Canolfan Maerdy is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Tairgwaith. Our aim - to provide facilities to enable local people to access training and employment opportunities and to run a Day Nursery as a social enterprise.
We are looking for volunteers to help us expand our activities: in particular, for local people to join our Board of Trustees. No previous experience in this type of role is necessary and requires only a few hours of commitment per month.
Volunteering can be rewarding and help you develop new skills.

One-Day Workshops and Taster Sessions
If you are thinking of embarking onto one of our Computer classes but do not feel that you want to commit yourself to a 30 week course, why not put your name down for one of our One Day Workshops or 3-hour Taster Sessions. These are not only suitable for building up confidence if you are slightly nervous about learning something new, but are a good way of making new friends. These are run regularly throughout the year as and when we have enough numbers to run a class.
