Get IT On
Canolfan Maerdy is proud to have become an IT Centre Of Excellence as part of the Get IT On project which has provided us with new computers equipped with Windows7 Operating System, the latest Microsoft Office 2010 software and Smartboard technology to ease the learning process. There are IT Centres of Excellence throughout South Wales.
Lifelong Learning Service
The Lifelong Learning Service provides a wide range of Adult Education Courses, with over 100 different titles available, in 400+ courses at 80 centres throughout the County Borough. Everything from Aromatherapy to Word Processing, from British Sign Language to Wood Sculpture, from Chinese Cookery to Welsh for Adults, and everything in-between!
Providing the largest Programme in Wales outside of the Capital the Lifelong Learning Service welcomes friends old and new to a warm, friendly and relaxed new academic year, sharing with others the fun of learning.

The Workers' Educational Association (WEA) South Wales is unique in the education world because it is a voluntary association of its learners. Each WEA branch or group negotiates the learning it needs giving the learner a voice in deciding how, where and what to study. We deliver Food Hygiene and First Aid one-day courses on a regular basis at Canolfan Maerdy in Tairgwaith.
Workways tackles the barriers that prevent individuals from finding employment. The project provides support with job searching, CVs, application forms, interview skills, telephone techniques and access to training. Participants are also matched with local businesses, helping them gain the vital experience needed to find long term employment.
